Hidden Scottish island elopement with adventurous gorge climb
Scotland has an abundance of jaw-dropping, magical locations. Still, if you are the type of couple like Kyra and Justin, who loved the allure of a hidden elopement location in Scotland, then we must be friends (or, at the very least, your photographer).
Having grown up in Scotland, exploring every nook and cranny of this beautiful landscape, I love discovering new and secret spots for my clients. In fact, I have an entire Notion database filled with hidden gems.
However, protecting the landscape is extremely important to me as a Scottish Elopement Photographer, which is why I like to keep some locations hidden. (Read more about my Leave No Trace approach)
Trust is key when planning a hidden elopement location in Scotland
It takes a tremendous amount of courage to elope to another country that you’ve never been to. Not to mention the trust you put in your local suppliers to guide and support you during the planning process. It’s easy to dismiss how hard it is to hand over that trust and leap into the unknown.
That is why I was so excited when Kyra and Justin approached me. They told me they wanted something truly unique and fully trusted me to find them the perfect location. With literally less than a couple of photos available anywhere online, they jumped on my suggestion to elope to a remote, uninhabited island.
Dave and I had camped on the island before and knew it had a small ruin, beautiful woodlands, a lovely shore, and best of all, privacy — all the things Kyra and Justin told us they wanted.
It was incredibly brave of them to say ‘heck yes!’ to something they couldn’t really see online – trusting that the vision we shared would match their own hopes and desires. They booked a private speedboat to take us to their own wee wedding island. Here, they were married amongst a circle of Old Scots Pines in a beautiful ceremony artfully conducted by Andrea, the Soulful Celebrant.
Kyra and Justin are definitely no strangers to adventure
After our island adventure, we refuelled at Oak Tree Inn, who welcomed us with big smiles and many congrats! It prepared us for yet more adrenaline to come. K+J scrambled down a red sandstone gorge to explore the Devil’s Pulpit. My heart skipped several beats as adventurous bride Kyra determinedly walked along precarious logs to get a better view of the gorge.
Whilst I fretted about making sure everyone was safe & comfy, I learned a valuable life lesson… those Montana folks have balls of steel. And I loved them for it.
If you dream of a quiet, hidden elopement location in Scotland that feels uniquely yours, I’d love to help you find it.
Some people might be drawn to Glencoe or the Isle of Skye, both popular tourist destinations and incredible locations, but there are so many other less popular, equally beautiful hidden gems in Scotland that might suit you better without the crowds.
