Enchanting Outlander elopement in Scotland

“Ye are blood of my blood, and bone of my bone. I give ye my body, that we two might be one. I give ye my spirit, ‘til our life shall be done.”

The allure of Outlander is what first drew this couple to the idea of eloping in Scotland. Like many, they dreamt of exchanging vows in the same breathtaking landscapes where Jamie and Claire’s timeless love story unfolded.

Historic locations for their Outlander elopement in Scotland

Jen + Justin travelled from the city that never sleeps to a quiet kirk in the Edinburgh suburbs. They couldn’t have chosen a more perfect place after falling in love with Scotland through the stories of the hit TV series, Outlander.

They chose a kirk which plays a very special role in the series as this is where Claire and Jamie, the main characters, are handfasted in marriage.

They both felt called to Scotland – somewhere they knew would feel magical

Especially to Jen, who recently discovered she had ancestral roots here.

It was important to this couple to connect to ancient Scotland, especially to Jen who recently discovered she had ancestral roots here. They wanted to explore ruins and feel small in the landscape.

They were staying in Edinburgh which is a wee bit of a trek from the mountainous vistas of the Highlands but luckily the city and its surrounds was able to tick their boxes. This is one of the things I love about Edinburgh – it’s so versatile!

Where fantasy meets reality

Their day started when we picked them up from the iconic Scotsman hotel and headed out of the city. They shared a beautiful ceremony – filled with ancient rituals to rival those seen on their screens.

Their florist (and celebrant) really transported us all to a different time in that quiet atmospheric kirk. Afterwards, we visited another Outlander filming location in the woodlands to continue our journey through history. Playing amongst the ivy-covered 18th-century ruins and connecting to the element of water.

Our day finished up by rambling amongst the hills of Holyrood Park, overlooking the city skyline and exploring more ruins as sun and storm cloud battled it out once again. We loved sharing this wee nook of Scotland with this adorable sweet couple!
