Education for elopement photographers
by a wee Scottish elopement photographer
Who the hell does she think she is…?
Hi, I’m Raini
*cue an awkward introduction from a classic introvert*
I’ve been photographing elopements in Scotland full-time since 2020. My journey to becoming a full-time photographer has been a long and winding one. I’m not the sort of person who picked up a camera 6 months ago and instantly created a successful business. It’s been built slowly, with intentionality, over a very long time. I like to think this means that I’ve seen + learned a lot.
I’m an observer. It takes me a while to jump into things. This might sound like a negative but I think it’s one of my greatest strengths. It means I take the time to understand things deeply before committing. I know how to test the waters gently and minimise risks. I’ve got my finger on the pulse at all times.
Since 2020, I’ve photographed over 100 elopements in Scotland. And I’ve built a successful sustainable business that I’m proud of. I might not be the most well-known photographer or have the most followers etc. but I know how to make my couples feel seen and valued.
My strengths
client experience
It’s such a broad topic but this is very much at the heart of my business. Careful consideration of a couple’s experience before, during and after their elopement.
Systems nerd
I’m neurodivergent so I *need* solid systems to keep right. It also keeps my couples well-informed and feeling empowered throughout the process.
curation
I love telling interesting stories and attracting like-minded couples. I believe a big part of this comes down to how I curate my work.
Personality
I let my personality shine and I’m not afraid to ‘put people off’ if they are not the right couples for me. I’m able to see people’s best traits and highlight them.
Scotland elopements
This might be obvious but I think it’s safe to say I know a fair bit about Scotland elopements, the market, how to keep couples safe, operating in a niche etc.
Boundaries
Building gentle boundaries between life and business to help improve the balance between the two (without compromising on client experience).
