Finding the un-Googleable – a hidden Autumn elopement

Most of the couples we work with don’t have a set location in mind when they approach us. And to be honest, we love that! Because it gives us the chance to show couples some options beyond the usual that you’re flooded with if you type ‘Scotland elopement locations’ into Google. Scotland has SO many beautiful areas to elope in – you will be spoiled for choice. And for couples brave enough to head off the well-trodden path, you’ll get to experience something truly unique and ‘just yours’.
We kick off the process of finding ‘your’ special elopement location by filling out a detailed questionnaire. Then I’ll pull together a personal webpage with a library of options which meet your criteria. Lasse + Naomi gave me an interesting challenge of trying to find a foggy reed-filled vast marshland location for their elopement. It’s not a landscape that is typical in Scotland, but we certainly have a lot of boggy heather-filled areas!
In the end, Lasse + Naomi made the bold decision to choose one of my much lesser-travelled suggestions – trusting me, having seen only a few images and being fairly un-Googleable. (I love it when this happens, but it’s also a lot of pressure to make sure it’s definitely right!).
(In the interest of keeping quiet places quiet, I won’t mention the location here. But I can say that it’s not too far from the central belt, which makes it a great easy-access location for folks who want to stay within reaching distance of Glasgow & Edinburgh.)
Treehouse elopement morning
Honestly, I don’t think this decision could have led to a more beautiful and well-suited day for Lasse + Naomi. It was a hazy, relaxed morning waking up in a gorgeous treehouse before having hair & makeup done. They got ready separately so they could surprise each other with a first look just outside the treehouse amongst the Autumn colours. Their outfits were a perfect reflection of their personal styles – accented with some most excellent nails (courtesy of Naomi, who is a professional nail artist!).
Also, how awesome is Naomi’s veil that she hand-made!?
Remote ceremony with Celtic rituals
Once ready, we headed down a very long, very quiet road to a spot that is easily missed. There, Lasse + Naomi were married in vast amounts of heather with distant foggy mountains and a still loch as their backdrop.
These two snuggly cuties tied the knot facilitated by the lovely Carolyn McCole from Agnostic Scotland. Their ceremony was filled with lots of beautiful personal stories and anecdotes. As well as Celtic rituals like handfasting and drinking whisky (from a seashell!).
Finding magic in the woodland details
After the ceremony, we roamed the wider area – with Naomi excitedly spotting mushrooms, flora and fauna. This was something that Lasse was keen for us to capture, as it is such a frequent occurrence in their day-to-day lives. We found the funghi stump to rule all funghi stumps – of which Naomi was definitely the queen!
Waterfalls and warhammer
As the light began to fade, Lasse and Naomi ate cake (topped by a cute Warhammer statue that they painted together for this special occasion) by a woodland waterfall. Chilling on a boardwalk amongst marshy woodland meant that they got their marshland after all!
Their day finished up with spooky Halloween vibes at a ruined manor house after dark – perfect for a couple of horror fans like them!
