Outlander meets Patagonia Scottish mountain elopement
How does one find a perfect Scottish mountain location for an elopement that can only be described as Outlander meets Patagonia-style vibes? Well, Tish and John didn’t know exactly where they hoped to elope in Scotland – only that they knew it had to be Scotland. (In their own words, ‘Tish wouldn’t budge’).
John hoped to find some Patagonia-esque vibes, and Tish wanted her movie moment to be amongst the mountains. Meanwhile Agnes the Labrador demanded there be water for her to splash about in. They ended up falling in love with a remote, quiet glen in the Highlands just as Autumn was creeping in. And I think it’s safe to say it ticked their boxes…
Not all Scottish mountain elopements require a gruelling hike
As much as Tish + John love a good hike in their free time, they wanted to feel surrounded by mountains, have a sense of elevation + vast views without the hardcore exertion. Luckily for them, I specialise in ‘cosy’ Scottish mountain elopements – i.e. finding jaw-dropping views at a leisurely effort level! There is a common misconception that many of my couples have to hike for hours and hours to get the views we do, but to be honest, we rarely walk for longer than 30 minutes at a time to get to beautiful, remote spots. (Another benefit of eloping in Scotland!)
The day started off as many of the best adventures do – just an open road and nothing but untamed wilderness!
After a relaxed morning of getting ready, the couple shared an incredibly cute first look. Agnes the Lab puppy looked on whilst Tish and John were swept up in the emotion of seeing each other all ready for their adventure ahead.
Driving down the winding roads to almost the end of the glen, we found ourselves at a beautiful viewpoint for their ceremony. There were lots of smiles, laughter, and a few happy tears. Not to mention, quite a few zoomies involved.
Their ceremony, conducted by the lovely Mairi, was filled with Scottish Celtic traditions like handfasting and drinking from the quiach as a way to honour the heritage of this beautiful land.
We were all SO excited and grateful to be in such a special place, with barely another person around whilst the moody clouds loomed overhead (but never raining).
Next, it was time to explore the forests
We purposefully left some free time after their ceremony to see where the road and our feelings would take us! It’s really nice to have unscripted space in your day so you can simply take a deep breath and enjoy it.
I think we all felt so present as we wandered the woods, marvelling at the Scots pines, and letting Agnes enjoy her much-anticipated wade in the Loch. There was barely a soul around!
We let the energy of the day and the available light guide us – soaking up every moment. There is something magical and unspeakable about quiet, intentional days like this!
We had a huge amount of fun with T+J but still holding space for those tender moments – it was playful yet soulful. And those are our favourite kind of days.
They ended their elopement with lanterns in hand and roaming between the heather
The couple enjoyed one last adventure together as the day began to wind down and twilight settled over the trees. With lanterns in hand and Agnes happily trotting by their side, they wandered through the fading light.
A perfect way to end their elopement for a girl whose heart was captivated by the romance and expansive views of the Scottish Highlands and a guy whose wanderlust knows no bounds. Oh, and a puppy who couldn’t be more excited for her humans to be married.
