Magical misty Isle of Skye elopement
Isle of Skye is a magical place to elope any time of year but it’s especially beautiful on those moody days. This misty Isle of Skye elopement will always have a special place in our hearts for how adventurous and wild it was!

Elope to Isle of Skye in Spring
Lea + Beau eloped from the US to Isle of Skye in April, just as Spring was setting in. The Spring season is incredibly unpredictable in Scotland – one day it can feel like a mild Summer’s day with blue skies and the next it can be snowing. This can even be the case, hour to hour – it’s very changeable. Even more so on Skye which is well-known for it’s wild weather but this is part of the magic of Isle of Skye.
For Lea + Beau, the day was mostly misty and drizzly but there were a few dry spells along the way! But hats off to this wonderful couple, they embraced the weather with open arms and big smiles on their faces. This is the best way to approach an elopement in Scotland!
Getting ready for a misty elopement
Lea + Beau got ready for their day at the Flodigarry Hotel based in the Trotterish area, which is an ideal spot for some of the best Isle of Skye elopement locations. Isle of Skye has lots of wonderful elopement suppliers – including Hair by Rosalind who stepped in the morning of the elopement to help Lea with her hair. After getting ready separately they each took a moment to write a letter to each other with all their thoughts and feelings about this important step.
A particularly memorable moment was just as Lea + Beau were gearing up to see each other for the first time, Lea’s beautiful lace dress tore at the back. Luckily there was a sewing kit on hand and I had to turn into a makeshift seamstress trying to reattach and reinforce the delicate lace for the adventurous day ahead. (Spoiler alert, the stitching held up – hurrah!)
Emotional elopement first look
In lieu of personal vows at their ceremony, they decided to swap letters to each during their first look where they shared their deepest feelings and thoughts about their relationship – past, present and future. Without the pressure of speaking aloud during their ceremony they were still able to have this incredibly intimate exchange of words.
Quiraing elopement ceremony
Lea + Beau chose to have their ceremony at the Quiraing – officiated by the lovely Davina McCluskie. As we arrived, the rain was coming down pretty heavy and the wind was up. This can make a ceremony a little more challenging – so we sat and waited for the weather to calm down a little. We threw some dry robes over L+B and they braved the wet for their ceremony. Lea even threw off all layers and wind protection throughout the ceremony – she was incredibly determined and brave.
As part of their ceremony, they included a handfasting in the ancient Celtic tradition.
Including friends and family in their elopement
After warming up, we explored a bit more of the Trotternish area and wound up at one of my favourite spots – Fairy Glen. The weather had calmed down a bit and I think we were all grateful. The thing about Skye is it’s jam-packed with different micro-climates – you don’t have to travel far usually to experience a different weather pattern!
To finish up their day, Lea + Beau sat beneath a fairytale-esque tree to read letters from their family + friends by lantern light. A beautifully romantic way to wind up their adventure before warming up and enjoying a wonderful evening together.
We absolutely LOVED getting to know these two and are so grateful for their trust to capture their day + keep them safe in slightly challenging (but oh-so-magical) conditions!! Here is what they had to say about the experience…
Raini & Dave!!!! we were blown away by what they did for us. Planning a UK elopement from the US seemed really overwhelming, but Raini really made it a simple and enjoyable process.
– Lea + Beau
Ever since, when I here of the stress people going through planning traditional weddings, or even just attending a wedding as a guest, I think “Bless their hearts, if they only had done an elopement with Raini, instead. ” Nothing compares to the day we had, and then the photos… We are introverted-nerds from Alabama, and they turned us into rockstars.
I’m definitely not a model, but Raini made me feel beautiful AND badass! and I have always thought Beau (my now husband, hehe) evoked these Nordic-Viking vibes, and that’s been brought to life for me seeing him on this epic backdrop. I can’t believe we get to relish in this and relive it again & again for years.
Raini & Dave are spectacular people and the work they do is truly magical. I seriously cannot recommend them enough!
