Phone selfies don’t end up on the mantelpiece

If you find yourselves thinking… “we don’t have any great photos of us together” then don’t worry, you are not alone!

Like so many couples, maybe the only photos you have together are the ones buried in the deepest darkest corners of your phone gallery that have never seen the light of day.

Beautiful images aren’t just for the big milestone moments in your relationship.

No matter what stage your relationship is in,  you deserve stunning print-worthy photos of your unique love.

Let’s create moments

That are worth capturing

So, what exactly is an adventure session?

Having photos taken doesn’t have to be a cringe-worthy time…

Brush the awkward posed portrait photos aside and

choose an unforgettable experience together instead

Imagine spending time together that is focused on the honest one-of-a-kind love you share – filled with adventure and the precious rare time to truly connect to each other.

It’ll be a day to look back on, and not just for the epic photos you’ll have.

What an adventure session could look like…

Climbing in the mountains during couples adventure session

Hiking through a hidden valley in Glencoe that most visitors don’t get to see. Admiring as the light bounces off the majestic mountains whilst savouring a well-earned picnic.

Or how about…

Finishing up your session with dancing through a golden field at sunset under the shadow of one of Edinburgh’s most dramatic skylines.

Maybe this…

It’s the feeling of standing on the edge of the sea, with wind in your hair. Exploring dramatic coastal areas and visiting cliffside castle ruins. All whilst wearing a badass outfit.

Vacations to Scotland

Don’t just take my word for it…

Maternity couples session in the Scottish Border

With an incredible eye for detail, a kind and easy-going manner and many-a-joke, she helped us feel comfortable in front of the camera, revealing beauty where our self-conscious eyes might not see it. Raini’s pictures always make me feel strong, confident and connected; to myself, to my husband and to the moments we shared.

Glencoe Scotland adventure session with a romantic couple embracing in front of a valley

Raini has immortalised our engagement in the most incredible pictures, and I’ll never actually be able to verbally express just how much those images mean to me. There’s only so much that a selfie, timer photo or someone else taking a photo of you and your partner on a phone can portray, but Raini’s photos have immortalised mine and my partner’s romantic side and it honestly felt like a fairytale.

Right from the outset, Raini exuded calmness, kindness, and warmth. Her familiarity with Edinburgh led her to choose some fantastic spots for us, including a few delightful surprises along the way! She really caters to and listened to us, accommodating those who love the wild outdoors as well as those who prefer a more city-based setting. We audibly GASPED when we saw the photos.

Handfasting adventure session

Handfasting, the binding of hands together, is an old celtic tradition that symbolises making a commitment to your partner. In modern life, they are most often used in wedding ceremonies but traditionally it’s always been a beautiful way to reaffirm your commitment at any stage of your relationship.

I offer a very limited number of handfastings per year, which are included as part of your adventure session. It’s especially perfect for anniversaries and couples looking to celebrate their love by honouring local traditions. (It’s not available for wedding ceremonies, elopements, vow renewals or when wearing wedding attire).

See handfasting page for starting price

(Includes a specialist handfasting celebrant)

Surprise proposal

If you’re planning to pop the big question then you may wish to have the moment captured.

I offer surprise proposal photography around Scotland. I can assist with brainstorming ideas for location and how to keep this a surprise for your partner until the opportune moment.

Whilst I don’t provide proposal planning services (i.e. providing props or arranging suppliers/meals) I am more than happy to help you come up with some ideas for how to make this moment memorable.

Questions & answers

Couple sitting on steps during couples maternity session in Edinburgh

My Edinburgh couples session will last around 1.5 hours. This gives us plenty of time to get comfortable in front of the camera.

For sessions which are further afield, these tend to last 2-3 hours (+ driving time). When you contact me, I can help find the right adventure session length for you.

For couples sessions, you’ll get little ole me!

I love to shoot in a place that has a special meaning to you as a couple. If that’s not do-able for any reason then I use my detective skills to uncover little hidden local spots to suit your style.

Adventurers or travellers? Great! I offer adventure sessions and destination shoots further afield (within a three-hour drive of Edinburgh).

Just yourselves! No need to bring any props unless it’s particularly important to you. Less you need to carry the more comfortable you will be. We’ll move from spot to spot a fair bit. Doggos welcome

Your photos will be 10x better if we shoot early in the morning or in the couple of hours before sunset. The time of the year has a big impact on the specific times but we can chat about that at our booking.

This is the most asked about topic…Rule number 1: dress for comfort! Of course, you want to look good on your shoot but not at the expense of feeling awkward in your outfit. If you feel great in what you’re wearing, odds are you will feel more comfortable in front of the camera.

Some general notes:

  • It’s Scotland… and we all know what that means! Bring some layers and a brolly.
  • Choose an outfit that flatters you and makes you feel amazing. Try it on beforehand and ask yourself, does this outfit make me feel good? Confident? If not, try another.
  • This doesn’t mean rushing out to buy an expensive or trendy outfit – you should wear something that is a reflection of you and your own style. Don’t be afraid to go really dressy if that’s what you want. Or casual. This is all about what you want.
  • I recommend staying away from anything which is too distracting i.e. large logos, words or loud patterns. Wearing all one colour (i.e. all black or white) or super bright block colours can also be a bit distracting.
  • Lastly, it’s best to avoid clashing with each other – easy to forget this one! On the other hand, try not to entirely match (if you decide to both wear jeans, try wearing different colours so they don’t blend together into one large set of legs). If you’re feeling super prepped, lay your outfits out to make sure they look nice next to each other.

Absolutely not. Almost all couples feel this way (to start with!) – It’s such an unusual situation to be asked to be in front of a camera with your partner for longer than 30 seconds.

I usually start the session with a few silly photos to get used to the camera and then the rest of the session will be getting cosy, having fun and getting to know you as a couple. I’ll have a few cues and prompts along the way to help you feel more comfortable.

Don’t worry about awkward giggles, they look great in the photos!

Once your images have been culled down and edited, I’ll send you a link to a private gallery with the final high-res images for download. I use a service called Pic-Time.

With your permission, there will also be a few popped up on social media and the blog so you can easily share with family and friends.
